    UNIVERSITY STUDENTS UTILIZATION OF ACADEMIC LIBRARY: A CASE STUDY OF JOSEPH AYO BABALOLA UNIVERSITY IKEJI-ARAKEJI, OSUN STATE NIGERIA

    This study examines the utilization of the university library collections and services among students of Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Ikeji- Arakeji, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study are to find out among the students the frequency of the use of the library collections and services, the purposes of using library collections and services, find out the availability and adequacy of the library collections and services, know the methods of accessing the library collections, determine the students’ level of satisfaction with the library collections and services, unveil the problems confronted in the use of the library collections and services and suggest means of solving the problems to improve the overall library efficiency . The study adopted the use of social survey research method. The main instruments for gathering data for the study are questionnaire and the Students’ Attendance Register at the Porters’ Lodge in the Library. The researchers also conducted personal observations to complement and support the information provided by the students. The findings showed that students use the library mostly during examination and a general poor patronage of the library, adequate book and journal collections, inadequate government publications, rudimentary method of accessing the library collections and a general satisfaction of the library services. The problems confronting use of the library were identified as lack of awareness of library resources, inadequate provision of photocopying services, deficient manual catalogue and inaccessible Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC), Suggestions were recommended for the improvement of library services

    MENTORING AND EMPLOYEE MOTIVATION AS DETERMINANTS OF JOB PRODUCTIVITY OF LIBRARY PERSONNEL IN UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES IN OSUN STATE, NIGERIA.

    The study examined mentoring and employee motivation as a determinant of job productivity of library personnel, given the increasing importance and need for library personnel in providing effective and efficient information service delivery. In this ever-changing need of library users, it is necessary to examine what determines the job productivity of library personnel. A survey design was adopted for this study. The total number of library personnel in the ten university libraries was one hundred and fourteen, which constitutes the respondents for the study. A total enumeration was adopted in the study as eighty-six library personnel were used as the sample size. A questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts, simple percentages, and inferential statistics of regression with the use of the Software Package for Service Solution (SPSS) tested at a 0.05 level of significance. The finding showed that the job productivity level of the library personnel is of a significant rate of 79.1%, which implies that they are productive and also mentoring determines their job productivity at 65.1% while the extent of the motivation of the library personnel responds rate is 58.1%. Mentoring (Beta = .510, t= 7.537, P\u3c0.05) and motivation (Beta = .259, t= 4.108, P\u3c0.05) had relative influence on job productivity. The study concluded that mentoring and motivation are essential for the development of productive library personnel. This study recommends that universities should embolden motivational practices. Also, libraries should improve on their mentoring activities by encouraging the transfer of novel and long-standing skills to younger library personnel in the profession as a means of increasing their loyalty and increasing job productivity

    Accessibility and Usage of Electronic Information Resource on Research Output of Librarians in Ekiti, Ondo and Osun States (2010 – 2015)

    The accessibility and use of electronic information resources enhance librarians research output by providing various information needed for research. Librarians are regarded as academics and are expected to publish like other academic staff, but it seems that librarians record low research output when compared with lecturers or other academic staff. The aim of this study is to investigate accessibility, use of electronic information resources and research output of librarians in universities in Ekiti, Ondo and Osun States of Nigeria. The survey research design was adopted for the research. The findings reveals that there was high level of accessibility and use of electronic information resources by librarians but not on research output that librarians published mostly in journals. The major challenge faced by librarians in this States was lack of time due to library routine tasks. This study concluded that most librarians in universities in study locale have access to electronic information resources but they do not maximize the use of these resources for their research work. Hence this study recommended that librarians’ routine task should be minimized so that they can have time to embark on research activities using the electronic information resources
